Recover password for Mac saved in Apple Remote Desktop

A client of mine has got a couple of servers that I haven’t touched in years and somewhere along the line I’ve lost track of the login credentials for them. I do however have the computers, and their passwords, saved in Remote Desktop, but Apple don’t provide any way to look this information up.

In my Keychain is a master password for Remote Desktop – it’s an Application Password called “Apple Remote Desktop” but this doesn’t help me with the servers as ARD saves the login information somewhere else.

After some searching, I found this old project on Github called ARD Inspectorhttps://github.com/ygini/ARD-Inspector

The files haven’t been touched in over a decade, however the pre-built binary that’s on offer downloaded and runs perfectly on macOS Sonoma on an Apple Silicon MacBook Pro.

Simply launch the app and enter the master password from the Keychain and it will show you the username and password for all of the saved servers in ARD.
