Apps Terms

These terms cover the apps published by Automatica Pty Ltd (“Automatica”, “we”, “us”), including ScanTransit, Bumblebee GUI, Password Generator and Transfer Rate Calculator. They apply whenever you download, install or use one of our apps. For the terms covering our managed IT services and support work, see our standard terms and conditions.

Licence

When you download one of our apps, we grant you a non-exclusive, non-transferable licence to install and use it in accordance with these terms. Our free apps may be used at no charge for personal or business purposes. Paid apps require a valid licence, which is issued as a serial number when you complete a purchase.

You may not redistribute, resell or sublicense our apps or licence serial numbers, and you may not attempt to circumvent licensing or trial restrictions. You may not reverse engineer, decompile or disassemble our apps except to the extent permitted by applicable law.

Open-source apps

Bumblebee GUI is open source. Its source code is published on GitHub under its own open-source licence, and where these terms conflict with that licence, the open-source licence governs your use of the source code. These terms still apply to the compiled app as we distribute it.

Trials

Where an app offers a free trial, the trial gives you access to the full app for the stated trial period so you can confirm it works in your environment before you buy. When the trial period ends, the app will stop working until a licence is purchased. We recommend testing the app against your own hardware and workflow during the trial, as this is the best way to confirm it suits your needs.

Purchases and refunds

Paid apps are sold as a one-time purchase, with no subscription. Prices are listed on each app’s page and are in Australian dollars unless stated otherwise.

Our goods and services come with guarantees that cannot be excluded under the Australian Consumer Law. If an app you have purchased has a fault or does not do what we said it would do, contact us at [email protected] and we will work with you to resolve the problem, including a repair, replacement or refund where required. Because paid apps offer a free trial, we ask that you use the trial to confirm the app suits your needs before purchasing; we do not otherwise offer refunds for change of mind.

Updates and support

We may release updates to our apps from time to time, including bug fixes, security patches and new features. Updates to an app you have purchased are included in your licence unless we clearly state that a release is a new, separately licensed product. We are not obliged to provide updates or to maintain compatibility with future versions of macOS indefinitely, though we do our best to keep our apps current.

Support for our apps is provided by email at [email protected] on a reasonable-endeavours basis. Support for our apps is separate from our managed IT services, and using our apps does not create a support agreement for your broader IT environment.

Your data

Our apps are built to run locally on your own hardware. Our free apps do not collect, transmit or store any of your information, with one narrow exception: Bumblebee GUI checks GitHub for newer versions of the Bumblebee binary and vulnerability data, a request made directly to GitHub that Automatica does not see or record. ScanTransit’s mail flow runs entirely on your own Mac – we do not proxy or otherwise intercept any email sent from the app, and your mailbox credentials and scanned documents never pass through any Automatica system; ScanTransit’s licence is validated by our cloud-hosted licensing server, which stores a one-way hash of your Mac’s serial number, your email address and your purchase date, and records basic information about app usage – but nothing about the volume or content of emails sent through the app. For more detail, see our privacy policy.

Disclaimer and liability

To the extent permitted by law, our apps are provided “as is” and we do not warrant that they will be uninterrupted or error-free in every environment. Nothing in these terms excludes, restricts or modifies any consumer guarantee, right or remedy you have under the Australian Consumer Law or any other law that cannot be excluded.

To the extent our liability can lawfully be limited, our total liability in connection with an app is limited, at our election, to resupplying the app or refunding the amount you paid for it.

Changes to these terms

We may update these terms from time to time, for example when we release a new app or change how an app is licensed. The date at the top of this page shows when the terms were last updated, and the current version applies from the date it is published.

Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of Victoria, Australia, and you submit to the non-exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of Victoria.
