Fix issue with Dropbox icons and right-click menu not showing in the Finder on macOS

Dropbox on macOS, using File Provider, is generally pretty well behaved these days with displaying the sync status icons in the Finder, and giving you the Dropbox options in the right-click context menu. Some apps can break this so that they no longer display. Here’s how to fix it.

Whilst they can sometimes get on well together, you’ll quite often experience conflicts when you have Dropbox and the Adobe Creative Cloud installed on the one Mac.

Today’s conflict is that seemingly randomly, Dropbox will stop displaying proper sync status icons in the Finder and/or the Dropbox entries in the Finder’s right-click menu will disppear.

Fortunately, there’s an easy fix for this.

Go to System Settings > General > Login Items & Extensions.

Scroll down to the bottom, and view the list of Extensions By Category.

Click on the i next to File Providers and turn off both of the Adobe extensions. Log out and back in again, or reboot, and your Dropbox right-click menu items should be back in play.
