I’m still testing this and aren’t at a fully working solution just yet, but it’s looking promising so far.
I’m wanting to try out Kerio Control but don’t want to dedicate the power, cost and space of a whole PC to do it. I also don’t want to run it in a VM as I prefer a piece of hardware sitting in between me an the internet.
I’ve got myself a small embedded x86 box, based on the AMD Geode system on a chip. It’s running at around 500-odd MHz, has 512MB RAM and uses a CF card for storage, I’m currently running it with a 4GB disk.
This is less than the recommended minimum specifications for Kerio Control, so it’ll be interesting to see how it performs. The minimum spec is 500MHz with 1GB RAM and I’ve got around half of this, so I’ll need to monitor the memory usage to see that it’s not getting out of control. It also recommends an 8GB disk to keep logs etc, so it will also be interesting to see how quickly or otherwise the CF card fills up.
Installation was anything but straightforward and I’m going to see if I can streamline it somewhat – it may be easier to do in the future if I get a serial cable hooked up to the box. I had to install it in a VM first and then clone that to the CF card in order to get it to boot up with a configuration that’d (hopefully) work with no interaction on the console.
